Networking is easy… as long as you are in the right frame of mind

Networking is easy… well it can be if you have the right frame of mind.

Imagine coming into a room full of business owners. You are thinking: “how can I get some business?”. You are on the prowl, hunting, looking for leads and opportunities… what do you think you will get? Most likely something like a lot of business cards and no relationships of value.

Now imagine coming into room full of business owners and thinking: “Wow… look at all these interesting people. This is going to be a fantastic opportunity to learn about some of them and maybe even give some of them some great information!”

I have been told this is the difference between “hands down” and “hands up” networking. One you are on the take, looking to see how much you can get and one you are on the give, looking to see how much you can add.

Which kind of person are you and who do you want to be?

If you want to make a difference try the hands up version (giving model as opposed to taking model). See how much you can give, how much you can offer, ask what the other needs. You might be surprised how much you can help.

And, as is said in so many philosophical and spiritual circles… what goes around comes around. So why not be a source of good in your community?
